A new take on the Witcher franchise was in the works according to an announcement made by CD Projekt Red last October. But it appears they’re going back to the drawing board. The New Witcher Game Project Sirius has been delayed, and we don’t know if it’s ever going to be greenlit.
CD Projekt Red’s New Witcher Game “Project Sirius” Delayed
The company made a regulatory announcement on March 20, 2023, where the company informed its investors that an impairment allowance was in order in regard to expenses incurred in the development of the New Witcher Game code-named “Project Sirius.”
CD Projekt Red went on to state that the total expenses accrued amounted to 33.4 million PLN. In U.S. Currency, that equates to nearly 7.6 million dollars. Expenses for just the first two months in 2023 amounted to 2.2 million dollars. These aren’t good numbers and apparently, CDProjekt Red doesn’t have the capital to keep funding the project, for now.
CD Projekt Red hasn’t made any other public comments on the matter for now. The company was working on an “innovative take on The Witcher Universe” over at The Molasses Flood, which CD Projekt Red acquired back in 2021. This is the same studio behind the Flame in Flood survival title.
But that’s not all; the company was also working on other projects as well, including a sequel to the formerly disappointing but now redeemed Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red also announced that it was working on an original IP, in addition to a few Witcher Spin-offs and a new Witcher Trilogy.
But what’s to come of the new Witcher Game codenamed “Project Sirius” that’s been delayed? Are these upcoming projects getting canned if things don’t go so well over at the company? Hopefully, CD Projekt Red will clear the air sometime in the future.
Till then, let us know your thoughts in the comments below. And stay tuned to The Nerd Stash for any future Witcher updates.
