OJ Simpson‘s controversial legacy continues to unfold even after his death. The infamous athlete had a life marred in scandal following the gruesome murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman on June 12, 1995. Although Simpson was acquitted of the double murders, he was found liable for their deaths in a 1997 civil suit. Now, for the first time since his passing, Nicole’s sisters are speaking out.
The siblings, Tanya, Dominique, and Denise, opened up about the horrors Nicole endured at the hands of the NFL icon. They revealed how Nicole’s marriage to Simpson was plagued with incidents of physical and emotional abuse. “I never knew he inflicted so much pain onto her,” Denise recalled, and Tanya added:
“The hitting, the kicking, the punching, the throwing up against walls. ‘You’re stupid, you’re ugly, you’re worthless. Nobody’s going to want you.’ My sister lived in hell.”
The siblings, in their chat with People Magazine, remembered several incidents of abuse they witnessed. Denise and Dominque recollected an occasion when Nicole invited them to upstate New York to watch OJ Simpson play. The day, which started well, ended on bad terms after OJ “flipped out” after seeing Nicole kiss a male friend on the cheek. “All hell broke loose when we came home that night,” Denise mentioned. “He had her upstairs in the bathroom crying. He said, ‘You embarrassed me.'”
Unfortunately, things only got worse when Nicole got pregnant. The oldest of the Brown sisters mentioned that the retired player became more volatile, calling Nicole “a fat pig.”
How Nicole Brown’s Sisters Feel About OJ Simpson’s Death
When asked how they feel about the death of Simpson, the sisters said, “It’s very complicated. This is a person who’s been in our life for a very long time, who wreaked havoc on our family. It’s like the end of a chapter.” Denise admitted that it was a mix of feelings finding out OJ died of cancer on April 12. “At first I was happy, and I was like, relief. And then I was sad for the kids,” she said. OJ Simpson and Nicole welcomed two kids, Sydney and Justin.
Tanya, Dominique, and Denise will open up some more about their late sister in a new upcoming documentary. The Lifetime project titled The Life & Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson will air on June 1 and 2.
