King Charles’ cancer battle is a terrifying ordeal for Queen Camilla and the royal family despite the monarch’s determination to put on a strong front. In March 2024, the British monarch shocked the world with the announcement of his cancer diagnosis, which was detected following an earlier surgery to treat an enlarged prostate. The revelation left the world concerned for the monarch’s health. Although Charles took a break from his official duties at the time to focus on his health, he soon returned to his role sooner than expected, betraying no signs of weakness despite his ongoing cancer battle.
Queen Camilla’s son, Tom Parker Bowles, who recently launched his new cookbook Cooking and the Crown: Royal Recipes from Queen Victoria to King Charles III, has opened up about how the royal family is holding up amid the monarch’s cancer battle. Speaking to People, Tom praised the King’s strength amid his ailment, adding that King Charles was doing all he could while adhering to his doctors’ advice. He also described his stepdad as a magnificent king, before delving into the challenges faced by the British royals as they watched the king’s struggle with cancer. Tom divulged,
“It’s a terrifying disease, and when someone close to you gets it in whatever capacity, it’s a very worrying thing. But my mother is strong as well. She supports him in every way. I think it’s wonderful to have someone you love by your side.”
King Charles’ Reveals How His Mom Deals With Her Royal Life
Tom Parker Bowles especially praised his mom’s resilience and courage throughout her husband, the King’s cancer battle. The 77-year-old has notably been a hands-on presence in the monarch’s life, filling up for him at royal engagements while undertaking her own philanthropic commitments as his Queen. Additionally, she has stood by King Charles’ side as an indispensable pillar of support as he undergoes cancer treatment, without letting age get the better of her. Tom said of his mom,
“I’m incredibly proud of her. She’s at an age when most people think of retiring, but she never complains; she just gets on with it.”
In her usual supportive nature, Queen Camilla joined her husband this month as he took a break from his cancer treatment in the UK to attend a 9-day summit in faraway Australia, 22 hours away from the UK by air. During the activity-packed trip which runs from October 18 to October 26, King Charles would suspend his “weekly” cancer treatment briefly. His Majesty would resume the treatment circle upon his return to his home country, per Daily Mail. Although the king’s medical team gave their nod of approval to put off the cancer treatment until his return, Camilla’s supportive presence by his side during this period would no doubt make up for any lapses.
