A woman in Burbank, California, claims she recently received an anonymous letter targeting her because of her race. She shared photos of the note on TikTok, which appears to refer to her as a “Black Lady” and reads that it was sent from a “concerned neighbor.” Her post received a lot of attention from thousands of netizens, with many condemning the letter as racist and encouraging the woman not to let it intimidate her.
The woman, who posts on TikTok as @cutiemecaked, said she found the letter sitting on the green patio chair where she often spends time outside the board and care home she lives in. The typed letter questioned why she was always sitting there and asked, “Who are you waiting for?” It also asked whether she worked, whether she lived in the home, and where she was from.
“Are you from Congo?” the note asked. It also stated, “This neighborhood is a mix of Armenian and White.”
The sender claimed that no one in the neighborhood knew who she was. They also said she looked “scary,” “lethargic,” and “sluggish.”
“We don’t know your name but we want to know what you are doing in this neighborhood,” the sender wrote. “Get a life… Don’t be lazy. Get a job.”
In a follow-up video, the California woman described the letter as a “racist hate note” and said she decided to share it to raise awareness and help keep others in the community informed. Her posts have since been viewed more than 2 million times across TikTok.
