Another A-lister has turned their back on Donald Trump. With just six days to the 2024 Presidential elections, veteran actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has endorsed Kamala Harris. The endorsement comes as a surprising twist, given that The Terminator actor is an avid Republican.
Schwarzenegger dropped the news in a lengthy statement on X, explaining why he doesn’t think Trump is the right candidate. “I don’t really do endorsements. I’m not shy about sharing my views, but I hate politics and don’t trust most politicians,” he began. “I also understand that people want to hear from me because I am not just a celebrity, I am a former Republican Governor.” The 77-year-old reflected on his time as Governor of California, using it as an example of what effective leadership should be like. He talked about loving “policy” and ignoring “politics,” which enabled him to work “with the other side” — something Trump doesn’t do.
The Commando star noted that he didn’t “like either party right now,” which makes him “want to tune out.” Unfortunately, he can’t because of the danger he believes Trump as president will pose. Schwarzenegger then seemingly referenced the Puerto Rico “garbage” dig at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally. “To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America is [sic] a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious,” he wrote.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Blasts Trump: ‘He Will Divide, He Will Insult’
The former Mr Olympia then threw his support behind Harris. “I will always be an American before I am a Republican. That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz,” Schwarzenegger declared. He then threw subtle shade at Trump, saying he won’t respect citizens’ votes “unless it is for him” and that he watched “with a Diet Coke” while his followers stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2022. Hammering on why the Apprentice star shouldn’t be voted in, the Hollywood icon wrote:
“It will just be four more years of bulls**t with no results that makes us angrier and angrier, more divided, and more hateful. We need to close the door on this chapter of American history, and I know that former President Trump won’t do that.”
Schwarzenegger continued, “He will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger.” He concluded the message by letting fans know that Harris and Walz are the only way forward. “Vote this week. Turn the page and put this junk behind us,” he urged.
