Rihanna isn’t one to recklessly jump into love. After having her love life overpublicized throughout her career, the “Lift Me Up” singer has embraced her identity outside of her romantic pursuits. The powerhouse recently gave some rare insight into her relationship with beau A$AP Rocky in a new Interview Magazine profile. Though the two have undeniable chemistry, Rihanna explains why “caution” was important to the two in the beginning.

There was a shroud of mystery around the pairing in the early days. Rihanna is willing to open up about the beginning and going from friends to something more.

I’ve seen him in relationships. He’s seen me in relationships. We’ve seen each other outside of relationships. We knew what we’re capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other’s lives. We can make or break each other’s hearts. And so, we started dating with a lot of caution.

The singer believes divine intervention brought her relationship with the rapper to a place of growth when she felt they needed it. After the pair quietly started dating in late 2019, the pandemic brought them to a crossroads.

COVID sped up our relationship, which I felt like god knew we needed because we were going to start a family. And had it not been for COVID, we would’ve taken a lot more time to get comfortable with each other, to even know that we were ready.

Rihanna recalls the early days of dating Rocky and says that their relationship grew organically to the point that “there was no denying it.”

It was the best thing that ever happened to us. It just happened.

Though the happy couple doesn’t mind stepping out in public together, they value privacy in their relationship.

Rihanna touched a little bit on her infamous dating history, noting that “in previous relationships, I tried and tried and tried my best, and you still feel like it’s not enough.”

With A$AP Rocky, the singer decided to “let God lead and just let go.”

So when someone sees you completely, and believes in you, and thinks you’re worthy of being the mother of their kids, it’s a great feeling. I felt the same about him. I knew he would be a great dad.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are proud parents to two sons — 8-month-old Riot and RZA, who turns 2 in May. While they aren’t sure what the future holds, if it holds more babies, the couple is okay with that. In her interview, Rihanna says that she’s open to “as many as god wants me to have.”

I don’t know what god wants, but I would go for more than two. I would try for my girl. But of course if it’s another boy, it’s another boy.
