The royal family is offering one of the earliest signs that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle no longer hold a spot within. The Duke and Duchess and Sussex have been at odds with the rest of the royals for years, commencing with the couple’s decision to step back from their duties as senior royals. Things further worsened following the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, which cast the firm in a bad light. Since then, the Sussexes have made more devastating claims against the Royal family, with revelations in Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, further dampening the strained relationship.
So far, the royal family has refrained from openly condemning Prince Harry and Meghan Markle despite countless comments from royal experts confirming their grievance. Nonetheless, the royals have shown where they stand in a more subtle way. Royal observers recently noticed a significant part of history involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle missing from the royal family’s official website.
While the exact timeline remains vague, it appears the royal family made a point of deleting the iconic 2016 statement where Harry first confirmed his relationship with Meghan. The rare statement, which the prince’s communications secretary released at the time, condemned the constant abuse and harassment the Suits actress faced from the media amid her romance with Harry.
As of December 2023, the statement remained on the British royal family’s website, per Newsweek. However, the link is evidently unavailable at this time, confirming the royals deleted it silently without raising brows. The deleted statement is just one of a handful of ways in which the royal family has ostracized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, without having to utter the words.
The Royal Family Gradually Oust Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Back in March, the British royal family shortened the official profiles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the website. In the place of a bio of sorts, the website mentions Harry and Meghan’s step back from their duties as senior royals in 2020. The site directs patrons to their personal website via a link for more information on them.

Buckingham Palace confirmed this move in the annual financial report, noting that Harry and Meghan paid for the “expenditure incurred by the Sovereign Grant” on renovations. Additionally, royal commentators have claimed the royal family, particularly Prince William, have disowned his bother and have no intention of wasting “emotional energy” on him after causing so much hurt.
Prince William and King Charles’ failure to reunite with Harry on his latest UK visit validates these claims. However, with the royals remaining silent on the subject, one can only speculate that, indeed, the tables have turned, leaving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the receiving end of alienation from a family they now yearn to lean into.
