A South Carolina mother was concerned when she heard a mom in her daughter’s Gril Scouts troop say she wanted her husband to be part of the troop. As a result, she wrote on TikTok, “I pulled my daughter OUT of Girl Scouts today,” and posed the question to her audience, “What would you have done?”
TikTok user Therealdoubledeemuva, Tiffany, posed the question on social media, where she offered the context and the aftermath. She herself had signed up as a troop leader for her child’s Girl Scouts crew. But at the meeting, the other mom asked if her husband could “be a part of their Girl Scouts troop.”
Tiffany immediately said “no” because she doesn’t know them personally. Others in the squad said “no” too, which became the majority. However, the woman’s husband was still showing up to their Girl Scouts meetings. Furthermore, the other troop leader had become even more adamant at meetings to make her husband part of the group.
From Tiffany’s point of view, it doesn’t sit right with her to let her daughter be around a stranger, let alone one that’s also a man. She says she personally wants to “give her children a childhood that they don’t have to heal from.” They plan on going on camping trips, which means they’re all sleeping around each other. And she points out that even with “background checks,” you never know someone’s true personality or intentions.
At the end of the day, every choice she makes is to “protect her daughter.” She goes on to warn it “only takes a second” for something awful to happen. As she puts it, she doesn’t think the matter is “appropriate” and they have plenty of female leaders as it stands. Now, Tiffany and her husband decided the best course of action is to pull her daughter out of that Girl Scouts entirely and avoid the whole affair altogether.
People online side with Tiffany
On TikTok, Tiffany found a lot of support in the comments, with several viewers wondering why the other troop leader was so insistent her husband be a part of the crew. “The question is, why does he want to participate?” one viewer asked, which started a long thread.
Some pushed back, considering it too inflammatory. “Perhaps because he’s a…. Good dad lmao wtf.” However, other TikTok users were quick to point out the troop leader was really pushing for it. Some suggested nefarious motives, such as child abuse.
One commenter, a father and former ‘Girl Scout Dad,’ gave his opinion, stating that his involvement was mostly “logistics” and only ever stemmed from his daughter asking him to participate. However, he added, “I wouldn’t put myself in that situation for someone to question anything I did,” and told Tiffany she “did the right thing.”
At the end of the day, it should’ve stopped after the troop leader wasn’t given the greenlight. Pushing it past that and forcing the matter has only brought negative attention to Girl Scouts. If he really wants to be a troop leader, he can go join Boy Scouts.
