Texas Man Fights Back Against HOA When They Disapprove of His House Flag

A Texas content creator was excited and thankful when his wife purchased a new flag for him to fly outside their home. However, the HOA where they live had other ideas. Soon, they received a letter in the mail for violating their HOA agreement.

Steven (@cityof92) has a lawn care company. His wife surprised him with a flag featuring his business logo. He decided to show it off by putting it up outside their house. Unfortunately, their HOA quickly tried to shut that down. This isn’t the first time Steven received a violation from their HOA. The first time, it was due to mowing while putting lawn stripes on their yard. This time, they said Steven used an “unapproved flag” displayed in their front yard.

Steven decided to fight back after his HOA said he was in violation for flying the flag he wanted to. In a series of videos, they showed the process of decorating their flag in a way they believe the HOA will approve of. With some help from friends, he spray-painted the front of their yard to look like a giant American flag. Since American flags are approved in their neighborhood, he figured this would be a flag the HOA would approve of.

He took a video of his house from a drone to show the sheer size of this American flag. It occupies a large portion of the front yard and is completely visible to anyone driving through the neighborhood. It took a ton of paint and willpower, but it’s clear that he made an impression and used his voice!

Commenters shared their reactions on Steven’s video, with many of them taking shots at HOA neighborhoods in general. As one commenter shared, “I will never understand why people choose to live in HOA neighborhoods. They make zero sense to me.” Others made suggestions to Steven about how he can continue to fight back in his neighborhood. One suggested, “Huge flagpole in the backyard so it’s visible to the street.” Another asked, “Can someone explain an HOA? You buy a house, pay taxes, mortgage, insurance, and someone had the authority to dictate what you do with your house.”

As of posting the updates, thousands of commenters shared their reactions on Steven’s posts. They continue to discuss HOAs and share their opinions on how Steven took action.
