X-Men‘s Hugh Jackman and his wife of 27 years Deborra-lee Furness announce their split in a joint statement describing their divorce as amicable. Hugh and his soon-to-be ex-wife first crossed paths in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV show Corelli. Despite their 13-year age gap, Deborra-lee and the then-upcoming actor hit it off immediately. Soon after, they kicked off their romance and tied the knot in April 1996, barely one year later. They have since welcomed two children, including 23-year-old son Oscar and daughter Ava, now 18.

In the last three decades, Hugh, 54, and Deborra-lee, 67, have established themselves as a Hollywood power couple inspiring millions with their love. Just when it seemed their relationship could only get stronger, the news of Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee’s impending divorce hit the tabloids. The duo confirmed the split in a statement to People, saying,
“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”
Via the divorce statement signed “Deb and Hugh Jackman,” the two explained they would continue to uphold family, which has always been their highest priority. Hence, despite going their separate ways amid their split, Hugh and Deborra-lee remain committed to undertaking the next chapter of their lives with “gratitude love, and kindness.” They enjoined the public to respect their privacy as the family navigates the big transition. For their concluding sentence, the new divorcees confirmed they had no intention of releasing another statement addressing their separation.

Aside from describing their divorce as amicable, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness failed to establish the real reason they decided to split. The announcement came as a shock to many, as until then, the couple let off no sign of marital woes. Contrariwise, they praised and celebrated each other at every turn. For their 27th wedding anniversary on April 11, 2023, The Wolverine actor shared a sweet tribute to Deborra-lee, reiterating his love for her.
He also reminisced on the life they built together in the last 27 years and their beautiful family. Hugh concluded the post by describing his wife and her most special attributes as an incredible gift to him. After leaving the internet green with envy with their loving anniversary tribute, a divorce was the last thing anyone would have expected from Hugh Jackman and his other half barely five months later.
