Katie Couric is officially a grandmother, a new Instagram post confirms. The Author of Wake-Up Call excitedly shared that her daughter Elinor Tully “Ellie” Monahan had welcomed her first child with husband Mark Dobrosky.
Couric wrote that Ellie and Mark were “over the moon” and that she was “thrilled to have [her] first grandchild” — a boy named John Albert Dobrosky. She even wrote about the special occasion in her weekly newsletter.
Monahan has been married to Mark Dobrosky since 4 July 2021 and the last we heard from her mother, she was “enjoying married life” after buying a house and getting a dog. Now, Ellie and Mark’s little family is complete.
Ellie Monahan is a writer and director whose most recent credits include The Boys, Liked, and Mr. Robot. She is one of Couric’s two daughters, the other being Caroline (Carrie), a producer. Couric had her two children during her first marriage to the late Jay Monahan, who died of colon cancer in 1998 at age 42. Coincidentally, John Albert will be nicknamed “Jay” in honor of his maternal grandfather, as Couric stated in her announcement.
In August 2023, Couric attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour with her two daughters. Months later, Couric revealed in a video shared to her Instagram account that she had accepted a friendship bracelet from Ellie, which read “Granny to be.” This was how Couric found out that Ellie was pregnant.
“This is what happens when you go to a @taylorswift concert last summer and forget your friendship bracelet and your daughters say, ‘Don’t worry, we made one for you!’ ” Couric wrote.
Carrie served as Ellie’s maid of honor at her wedding and the two have remained close. As far as their famous mother, Katie Couric married financier John Molner, the CEO of Katie Couric Media, in 2014.
