While the Olympics is full of talented athletes, there are always a few that end up going viral. This year, one of those Olympic heroes is Stephen Nedoroscik, aka Pommel Horse Guy. The 25-year-old is a member of the USA men’s gymnastics team. As his nickname implies, he specializes in the pommel horse routine. Although he only competed in one event during the 2024 Paris Olympics, he ended up stealing the show. Since he’s become an internet celebrity overnight, here’s what you need to know about Pommel Horse Guy.
Who Is Stephen Nedoroscik?
Stephen Nedoroscik is an American gymnast from Worcester, Massachusetts. He’s been participating in the sport since 2003. Although other gymnasts tend to learn all disciplines (floor, vault, parallel bars, horizontal bar, pommel horse, and still rings) to become an all-arounder, Nedoroscik only focuses on the pommel horse. He told the Washington Post he thought he would receive “backlash” for doing just one event. However, the public’s reaction to Nedoroscik during the 2024 Paris Olympics proved to be the total opposite.
Pommel Horse Guy Goes Viral
Viewers actually found it amusing that Nedoroscik was there for a single event. After the camera caught him resting his eyes during the men’s gymnastics event, a rumor spread online that he must have fallen asleep waiting to compete. Once it was his turn to take the stage, Nedoroscik blew everyone away with his routine. He did so amazing that he helped his team win bronze, marking their first medal in 16 years.
Since then, Stephen Nedoroscik has been dubbed the “Pommel Horse Guy.” He’s also been given the nickname Clark Kent due to him taking off his glasses before his award-winning routine.
Congratulations to Stephen Nedoroscik and the rest of the USA men’s gymnastics team for making history!
