It’s official; Elle Woods is coming back! On Tuesday, May 14, Prime Video announced that the iconic character will return in a Legally Blonde prequel series. The show, titled Elle, will focus on the future lawyer’s high school years. Although the streaming platform hasn’t dropped the cast list yet, fans already have someone in mind who would make the perfect Elle Woods: Reese Witherspoon’s look-alike daughter, Ava Phillippe.
Will Ava Phillippe Be the New Elle Woods?
Witherspoon first brought the character to life in 2001 with the release of Legally Blonde. The film followed Elle Woods as a young adult studying law at Harvard University. Meanwhile, the 2003 sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, depicted her as a full-fledged lawyer working in Washington, D.C.
Since the prequel series will focus on a teenage Elle Woods, it’s likely Witherspoon will pass the baton to a different actress. Fans are crossing their fingers that it’ll be Witherspoon’s daughter, Ava Phillippe. The 24-year-old looks so much like her mother that she’s been called her “twin.” While Phillippe hasn’t dabbled in acting, the Legally Blonde prequel series could be her chance to break into the industry.
Another popular fan casting is Sabrina Carpenter. After Prime Video announced the prequel series, a fan on X urged the star to “call” her agent in order to get cast in the series. The post has since received thousands of likes and reposts, which shows just how many people agree she could play a young Elle Woods.
Of course, nothing has been confirmed just yet. Since Witherspoon will be heavily involved behind the scenes of the show, she’ll likely have a hand in picking the new Elle Woods. According to Deadline, her media company, Hello Sunshine, will create the series for Prime Video. On top of that, she’ll serve as one of the project’s executive producers.
