Simulation-style games can be a lot of fun. Games like RimWorld, Prison Architect, and Cities: Skylines are all beloved fan-favorites. I myself have put thousands of hours into this genre. So when I saw the new top-down colony simulator, WizardCraft Colonies pop up on Kickstarter, I gave it a look. And it seems to have a lot of promise. But of course, you don’t have to take my word for it. You can check out this nifty trailer down below.

Definitely picking up RimWorld vibes. Which is absolutely not a bad thing. WizardCraft Colonies seems to eschew any futuristic tech for a medieval fantasy-style setting. Your base units are peasants, they can then become knights, archers, and wizards. The game features something called “manatricity” in place of electricity.  I guess that’s kind of clever. Other than that it seems to have all the systems and features you’d expect from this type of game. Farming, building construction, animal taming, combat, exploration, resource gathering, and multiple biomes. It’s all here. If you have played this anything in this genre before, you probably know what to expect.

The Kickstarter page mentions that the game is mostly complete and will be released on Steam early access at some point in the future. The goal of $1,274 is just to add further polish and refinement to the title. The lowest level pledge of $6 gets your name in WizardCraft Colonies‘ credits, so that’s pretty cool. You’d have to give up at least $19 to get a copy of the game though. I’m considering it, but I am very picky about where I spend my Kickstarter budget, so we will see. At the time of this post, the campaign had reached $90 with 5 backers and 28 days to go. I wish developer DoubleD Games all the luck in reaching their goal.
