Earlier today, a fresh batch of character portraits for the upcoming Justice League movie was released by Warner Bros. Each member of DC’s elite superhero squad are presented with a fitting color scheme.

Wonder Woman looks focused in an orangish-yellow backdrop; Flash is determined in red; Cyborg isn’t pleased to be half robot in a greyish-black background; Batman sends off a Dark Knight vibe with a midnight blue; Aquaman remains one with the ocean in a coral green. Check them out below.

The most notable absence from these portraits is Superman. After his death in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, there has been speculation that he will be resurrected some point during the movie. In the notorious comic storyline, “The Death of Superman”, Doomsday found his way to Earth (in a different way than in BVS by Lex Luthor) and, after an extended fight with Superman, defeated Earth’s hero. Doomsday perished as well, which made Superman’s sacrifice a heroic one.

Although presumed dead in the comics, Superman was later revived by a series of events that would serve to bring his body to the regeneration matrix in the Fortress of Solitude. So fans have reason to believe that Superman–although dead right now–will be revived to join the rest of the Justice League by the time the film ends. As to how this will happen, it is still uncertain. Just know that it more than likely that the Man of Steel will be back. Who else could Alfred be talking to at the end of the latest trailer?

Justice League’s villain, Steppenwolf, was revealed in the San Diego Comic-Con trailer. He’s not a well-known bad guy like Brainiac, Joker, or Lex Luthor, but he is someone that needs to be taken seriously by the Justice League. The trailer shows that. With not a lot on how Steppenwolf will come into play during the film, fans can at least speculate–considering he is the guide and uncle to Darkseid–that he has already set the events in motion which lead Darkseid to Earth. That’ll most likely be for another movie though.

Justice League will hit the big screen on November 17, which just so happens to be the 25th anniversary of Superman’s death in the comic books. Coincidence? I think not.

Most of the time he spends writing, reading (anything from comics to classic literature), playing video games, and wondering when the next Elder Scrolls title will be released. Hopefully soon...
