Take the Nintendo classic Excitebike, add in a dash of Trials HD, and place at 400 degrees inside the world of Mad Max, and you’ve got yourself a good sense of what the upcoming Steel Rats is all about. Developer Tate Multimedia has been working on this one for awhile, and the first gameplay trailer looks to be an interesting take on the platformer genre. Check it out below:

Steel Ratsâ„¢ Gameplay Trailer

Maybe there’s a bit of Full Throttle and Ghost Rider in there as well?

Setting aside what all Steel Rats can be compared to, it looks like a unique platformer with a fun aesthetic. Billed as a motorbike combat game, players will be tasked with getting through post-apocalyptic levels, bashing robots with their motorcycle as they speed through levels. A key element of the game appears to be the transforming front wheel on your bike, unleashing blades, climbing vertical walls (and even riding across the ceiling on occasion), or blasting lunge attacks in different directions.

Tate Multimedia is no stranger to motorcycle games, releasing Urban Trial Freestyle in 2013. Steel Rats appears to be attempting to carve out a bit more unique personality with its aesthetic and style, and looks to be shaping up nicely. Sideswiping robots, leaping ahead of speeding trains, and dodging obstacles looks to be a white knuckle experience.

There’s definitely a hint of Shadow Complex in there.

Tate Multimedia has not announced a definitive release date for Steel Rats yet, but they are hoping to get it released sometime this year for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. You can check out more screenshots and videos on the game’s official site. We will have more on Steel Rats as it becomes available. Here’s hoping that you don’t flip head over heels when you hit an obstacle and have to pound the buttons to run back to your bike.
