In an oddly heartwarming moment, a group of people came together at a Texas airport to greet incoming flights with a hot dog salute. They cheered and waved to the passengers on the planes while proudly holding their hot dogs high.
The movement was started by a man named Conner Sunderman, who describes his mission as “healing the world by giving inanimate objects the human experiences they deserve.” Conner appropriately credited Grillo pickles and their Pickle Tourism antics in New York City as his inspiration for the hot dog shenanigans.
Internet Falls in Love With Texas Hot Dog Welcome
Originally posted on Instagram, the clip has delighted the internet. One person commented, “Give the whole world glizzys all at once, world peace will follow.” Another shared, “I love when people use their free will in a weird way.” However, some people had questions about the incident. Someone wondered, “How the [expletive] do you get so many people to hold a random hot dog?” Another inquired, “Why is everyone’s instant reaction to wiggle them?“
Adding to the clip’s wholesomeness is the fact that the airline shown in the video commented on Conner’s post! Southwest Airlines wrote, “Our planes hadn’t seen hot dogs before. Thank you for changing that.” Similarly, someone who claims to have been on that very flight offered their perspective with, “I was on that plane, wondering why everyone was waving those hot dogs at me. Thank you for sharing.“
Many pointed out that Grillo pickles have started a trend and expressed delight to see the internet continue the movement. Some even went as far as to speculate that quirky but unifying clips like this were the original reason for the internet’s existence.
Much to Conner’s followers’ delight, he isn’t stopping with this one video! The content creator has made a GroupMe page titled “Showing Things Things,” and is using his social media to invite others to join. As of this writing, there are only four members, but the group is likely to grow quickly as Conner’s clips continue to circulate. It’s also worth noting that the hot dog video was posted only one day ago.
Thanks to these folks’ hard work, those hot dogs have now seen a plane land. Furthermore, the individuals on that flight experienced what may be the silliest welcome anyone has ever received. As for those who held up the hot dogs, they may be responsible for the start of a beautiful movement – or a cult; only time will tell.
