It has been almost two months since reports came in that Netflix was looking to acquire the rights to comic book series Locke & Key. Earlier today it was revealed that the deal was complete, and that Netflix would be adapting the show into a 10 episode series.

Created by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke & Key tells the story of the Locke children, who return to their childhood home of Keyhouse in secluded Lovecraft, Massachusetts after the violent murder of their father. While their mother drowns herself in alcohol to cope with grief, the youngest of the bunch, Bode, begins to unravel the mysteries of the house. After finding a key, the youngest Locke soon unlocks horrors old and new, real and imagined, that will come ravening after his family and the secrets they hold.

Hill will also work on the Netflix series, and will be joined on the creative team by Aron Eli Coleite and Meredith Averill. Lost executive producer and joint showrunner Carlton Curse is also set to lead the project alongside Averill. Barbara Muschietti, Lindsey Springer, Ted Adams and David Ozer, and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs will also join them as executive producers.

The most interesting news that comes from this purchase is that Netflix will be redeveloping the scripts and re-casting the entirety of their Locke & Key adaptation. Originally, the series put forth an existing pilot which Hulu passed on earlier this year.

There is no release date for Netflix’s Locke & Key adaptation as of yet.
