When a Georgia woman had an interview with a company for a job, she was excited to see where things would lead. But that excitement quickly turned to horror when the HR manager called her a racist slur. And what’s worse is that she has the receipts.
Posted by TikTok user Allisonmathisjones, Allison, she opens up about her experience in story-time fashion. She’s been applying for a new job and, luckily, scored an interview. That interview quickly turned sour, after she’d already been really excited about it.
When Allison answered the online interview request, the interviewer asked if they could move the interview out an hour because she wasn’t at her desk. Allison said she unfortunately couldn’t because she had to pick up her kids that day. However, she politely told the interviewer “don’t worry about” and that she’d reschedule for a day that works for her.,
What she wasn’t expecting was a “blatantly racist“ email. The email, sent by an HR worker, was titled, “Don’t waste our time again.” After opening the email calling Allison a “Chimp,” they state, “You showed up to the interview just to say you’re not interested? What a clown. Impressive waste of everyone’s time.” The manager goes on to tell Allison that she should “never reach out” to the company again.
Allison was incredibly shocked, stating this is so “disheartening” as a Black woman who is just trying to find a job. She said she can’t believe a company would be so “blatantly disrespectful and so racist.” Allison was already disheartened due to the fact she’s had to deal with scammers during her job hunt. Allison confirmed she has wishes to start her own business and become an entrepreneur just so that she doesn’t have to deal with instances like this.
TikTok viewers online urge Allison to seek out a lawyer
Not only did commenters suggest to Allison she should be seeking a lawyer, they also shared the company name, as did Allison in the caption of her video. “You need to sue! Get a lawyer,” one commenter wrote, with comment after comment saying the same thing.
Another commenter pointed out the experience was especially appalling given that the interviewer was “late and off camera.” One TikTok viewer suggested the business may have been illegitimate. “Sounds like a fake company,” they wrote. Internet sleuths found the job listing, which appears to only have one employee.
On the topic of the business being fake, a TikTok user argued it was likely created to “deliberately rage bait Black women, to potentially waste their time and harass them instead.”
Luckily, this hasn’t stopped Allison from her dreams. In the caption of her video, she states these experiences are “why I’ve been leaning harder into building something of my own… So while some people are busy sending racist emails, I’ll be over here building a business.”
