Recently, Georgia citizens have started asking data centers to reduce their water use, as the incoming drought could be even worse this year because of them. And while some think asking is enough, others believe that authorities should start demanding these facilities to cut water use more assertively.
Given how the drought is affecting Georgia, officials are now concerned about the impact data centers are having on the state, specifically in terms of water usage.
As many know, these facilities use up a lot of resources, water being one of them, and with summer upon us as well as high temperatures, some authorities are looking for ways to save water, as citizens need it more than data centers.
One scary thing is that data centers use between 500,000 and 9 million gallons of water per day, according to a Bloomberg Law article. That is a lot for just one of these facilities, meaning that the government is, in a way, wasting resources on something that the community has been extremely vocal about.
With this in mind, citizens believe it is time for action and that authorities shouldn’t be lenient when it comes to asking data centers to reduce their water use. Instead, they need to start demanding that the facilities give some of that water to the community, which is a priority, especially with these temperatures.
Georgia Thinks The Government Should Just Stop Approving Data Center Projects
While some believe authorities need to be assertive during this water and data center debacle, many think that the main issue is that the government continues to allow these projects in the state.
