If you don’t know your Disney history, the charming black and white rabbit Oswald existed before Walt put Mickey to paper. To pay homage to the classics, Disney Dreamlight Valley allows players to unlock Oswald so he can join up with the other popular friends. This is only available if you own A Rift in Time expansion. Plus, there are several hoops you must jump through to get the little guy to come to the Valley with his own house. So, strap yourself in and prepare to practice some patience.
Finding Oswald in Dreamlight Valley
The path to Oswald starts by you simply following the main story Act II: The Spark of Imagination. Progress through that until you gain access to Merlin’s quest “The Sunken Ruins,” to which we have a handy guide to help you finish it as fast as possible. But here’s where the journey to Oswald in Disney Dreamlight Valley branches into a few different paths.
Once you finish “The Sunken Ruins,” you’ll unlock “A Bit of Help From Your Friends.” It consists of three quests for the following characters:
- Gaston
- Rapunzel
- EVE
You must finish these quests, solve the Ancient Ruins puzzles, and finally discover Oswald at the bottom of the ruins in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Still, we aren’t done yet.
Bringing Oswald to the Valley – Part 1
Just because we’ve met Oswald, it doesn’t mean he’s joined the Valley yet. You have to get out of those ruins first. Speak with Oswald (which won’t get you anywhere) and he’ll guide you to repairing the bridge lever. Scare an Exclamation Point out of him by using the trumpet to his left, and you’ll slot that in the indicated area to fix the bridge.
Now, follow Oswald and pick up his dropped Question Mark along with three Flying Gears nearby. Use these to create a Question Mark Wheel at the Timebending Table. This is something you’ll have to do twice. Once you place the Wheel in the correct spot, get another Question Mark from Oswald and repeat the process to activate both machines.
When you get Oswald’s Trumpet and scare yet another Question Mark from the poor guy, you’re closer to permanently getting him in Disney Dreamlight Valley. At this point, you’ll open the gate and reach a cutscene that sees Oswald roaming Eternity Isle.
Bringing Oswald to Disney Dreamlight Valley – Part 2
We can now start “Oswald’s Many Dimensions” questline in Dreamlight Valley. I’ve broken things down in simple steps below so that you know what to expect:
- Dress up as Oswald: Change into black pants and a white shirt. All that’s left is to equip the Fedora Oswald gave you.
- See if Oswald approves: If you have the right outfit on, you’ll see a quest marker above Oswlad’s head when you go to interact with him.
- Pick eight flowers: You must pick either eight black or eight white flowers. Thankfully, you can head to any realm with flowers to find them.
- Check in with Oswald: Find and speak with Oswald.
- Break the Communication Barrier: It’s an actual barrier titled “The End” you can use your pickaxe on to destroy. And now we finally understand Oswald in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
- Gather materials to craft the Oswaldian Pencil: You’ll need x15 Tropical Wood, x10 Coal, and x1 Amber. The Pencil is under “refined material” at the crafting table.
- Equip the Pencil and check in with Oswald: The Pencil is in your wardrobe. Once equipped, go to Oswald and get the template for his 2D house.
- Set up the house and speak with Oswald: You can place the house anywhere in the Valley, but Oswald doesn’t like it regardless.
- Purchase 3D glasses: Go to Scrooge McDuck to buy 3D glasses for 1,050 Star Coins.
- Wear the glasses and build the house: With the glasses on, interact with the sign at Oswald’s house.
And now that we’ve exhausted every avenue thrown our way, we can finally unlock Oswald in Disney Dreamlight Valley. You don’t have to pay to build the house either. Oswald will be satisfied and you can interact with him like everyone else in the Valley.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
