A man in Fulton County, Georgia, was bailed out of jail by a complete stranger. That stranger, an influencer, was met with complaints, as the formerly jailed man told him he was better off behind bars, leading to a very viral interaction.
Famous Que, a popular content creator, shared the bail-out online. His content often revolves around giving away money to those in need, which makes the clip attached above on-brand. It became one of his biggest recent posts, garnering 1.6 million views, 83,100 likes, and more than 2,700 comments.
Standing in front of Fulton County Jail, Que met with Derek Smith, who was fresh out of jail. The influencer had randomly picked him from the inmate list and bailed him out. However, Derek wasn’t too fond of that, at least initially.
“Why did you do it?” he asked Que.
The influencer tried to explain his reasoning, saying that he was trying to help someone out. Derek, meanwhile, told him that he had nowhere to go, as he was homeless. Therefore, staying behind bars was his only option for having a place to stay, even if he had to pay with his freedom.
A back-and-forth followed, during which Que told Derek he was going to buy him lunch. The ex-inmate, however, told Que he might as well welcome him home. The Georgia influencer told him, “I don’t know you like that.”
“You’re free now, you can go make something of your life,” Que said. Derek clapped back, “[Expletive] that, I’m going back in there [jail]. I’m happy in this [expletive].”
In a follow-up, the argument continued. Derek said that, even if he did agree to having lunch with Que, he wasn’t sure where he would go after that. Neither appeared to be willing to understand the other party, and so the clip ended filled with expletives and Derek saying bye to Que.
Social Media Reactions
The two clips sparked multiple reactions online, the majority from viewers who got Derek’s point of view. One wrote, “Roof over his head, three meals a day, socializing, etc. The streets are no joke.” Another one commented, “This is how bad the economy is.”
Others bashed the Georgia content creator for bailing Derek in the first place. One wrote, “Don’t bail nobody else out!” Another one added, “That man had a bed, 3 meals, and AC, and you [expletive] that up for him.”
In the end, as shown in a long-form YouTube video, Derek ended up agreeing to lunch. The pair went ot McDonald’s, and then Que brought him to a recording studio. There, they recorded a song titled “My First Day Out.”
