‘It’s Creeping Into Alabama’: Internet Shocked After Red State Citizen Denounces Trump at Gas Pump

Someone’s upset

A photo crossing thousands of eyes on r/pics has surprised many online users, as it allegedly featured a gas pump in Alabama etched with words cursing Trump. Many found this shocking, considering Alabama is a red state that voted Republican in 2024. R Street Institute even referred to it as “the reddest of the red states,” though this remark was made over ten years ago. Still, some left-leaning Redditors found it rather hopeful to see people opposing Trump in a red state.

Brent086, the individual who captured the post’s photo of the vandalized gas pump denouncing Trump, had also shared the picture on r/Birmingham, remarking that the person cussing out Trump for all to see might have run out of anti-Trump stickers. On both subreddits where the picture was posted, hundreds and thousands of Redditors expressed support for the sentiment.

“Weird, like that whole State voted for him,” said a commenter. “Straight and to the point, this is art,” praised a second. “Wow it’s creeping into Alabama, he is toast. Sadly we all will be by the end of this term,” said another with less hopeful sentiment. “Although I agree with the statement, I do not like vandalism,” added a fourth.

Some Users Argued Against Vandalizing Property for Making a Political Statement

On the note of vandalism, there is a minority that believes this practice of trying to make a statement against Trump on gas pumps could do more harm than good. One person posted this sentiment on r/TrueUnpopularOpinion, pointing out how the popular “I Did That” sticker is inconsiderate to the people who manage the gas pumps. “You’re not ‘owning conservatives’ or making a point, you’re just creating extra work,” they wrote with criticism.

As a counter argument, commenters in this post said they still see anti-Biden stickers on gas pumps, meaning that nothing’s changed between the administrations over people blaming the President for the rising prices. Though, plenty are certain that it’s as one Redditor puts it, “The President has absolutely not a thing to do with gas prices. Except in this particular case, they actually do.”
