Katy Perry has finally broken her silence. During the latest episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, the singer addressed working with the controversial music producer Dr. Luke on her new single “Woman’s World.” Considering the track is all about female empowerment, fans didn’t understand why Perry would chose to collaborate with a man accused of sexual assault. Despite the backlash, it seems she doesn’t regret her Dr. Luke collaboration.
Katy Perry Discusses Dr. Luke Collaboration and Fans’ “Disappointment”
On Wednesday, Sept. 4, Perry appeared on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast to talk about her upcoming album 143. Initially, fans were excited to hear the record since it would mark her first new release in four years. However, once they heard Perry recruited Dr. Luke for her comeback single “Woman’s World,” all that excitement seemed to fade away.
Cooper asked Perry about fans’ negative reactions toward her Dr. Luke collaboration. The pop star acknowledged that their controversial team-up “started a lot of conversations.” However, she appeared to double down on her decision to work with him by saying he helped bring her vision for 143 to life. “I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis,” Perry said. “He was one of the people to help facilitate all that, one of the writers, one of the producers.”
Although Dr. Luke did help write and produce her latest single “Woman’s World,” Perry said the track’s empowering message was all her. “I am speaking from my own experience,” she explained. “I speak about feeling so empowered now as a mother, as a woman, giving birth, creating life.”
“Woman’s World” is just one of the tracks off Perry’s seventh studio album 143. The record is set to drop in just a few weeks on Friday, Sept. 20.
