Joking about the President’s health is dangerous business, even if it’s just implied, and in the case of one celebrity from California, her joke has ignited backlash. Lindsey Cho, a veteran stand-up comedian and actress, is now facing criticism from Trump supporters after poking fun at former Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s death, and along the way, wishing some other related politicians die afterward based on the rule of threes.
Asian-American celebrity Cho, 57, from San Francisco, California, took to her personal Facebook account on July 12 and posted a short clip of her joke about the late Lindsey Graham. Cho began the video with, “Bye Lindsey Graham,” further adding, “From the closet to the coffin, real seamless.” She finished the joke with wishful thinking, “Also yeah, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham… [deaths/does] happen in threes! Hope!”
Mitch McConnell, for the record, is another Republican Senator who is currently alive, but was hospitalized back on June 14 following a fall and a subsequent mild case of pneumonia. While Cho didn’t explicitly mention President Trump among those she wished would perish soon, certain social media users and groups of people have assumed the comedian was referring to the President.
X users, in particular, have accused Margaret Cho because she “mocks Lindsey Graham’s death and appears to wish Trump is next.” Meanwhile, certain social media users on Cho’s own Facebook page seem to have also assumed the implication, commenting with, “Now now… The Third [medal] will be Tr…? with another one joking, “A lady bug, a turtle and an orange walk into a bar/firepit.”
Cho’s joke has sparked criticism online
Cho’s clip seems to have entertained her followers on Facebook and even found her “closet to coffin” joke funny since she also implied that the late Lindsey Graham is a closeted gay man. However, other people were not exactly fond of the comedian’s views and how she made light of someone’s death or even supposedly wished death on another based on the accusations.
“She is an actress? What horror movies is she starring in please? She looks pretty scary. Not being mean , just being honest. Being disrespectful about a person that has died is totally uncouth. Wishing death on a person is not wise,” argues an X user. Other commenters accused Cho of being irrelevant, with scathing comments such as, “Meanwhile Margaret Cho’s career is deader than Lindsey Graham will ever be. He’ll live on in memory. She’s already forgotten.”
Cho was last featured in the Hollywood spotlight in 2025’s Queens of the Dead horror-comedy movie, though she also rose to prominence on the ABC sitcom All-American Girl and is currently doing a stand-up comedy tour in various locations in the US. Cho has also been a vocal critic of ICE and Donald Trump, posting her rants about him more frequently on her social media accounts.
