Barely a year after Sean “Diddy” Combs reassigned publishing rights to all Bad Boy Records artists and writers, Aubrey O’Day reveals the true motive behind the move on TMZ Investigates: The Downfall of Diddy. Diddy has found himself tied to various sexual assault allegations but hasn’t exactly been nailed for any. Despite the rapper’s claim of innocence, more people have continued to come forward, with names like Dickerson-Neal, Liza Gardner and Rodeny “Lil Rod” Jones leading this club.
Aubrey O’Day Exposed Diddy’s Move to Silence Her
Last month, an investigation into the rapper’s alleged sex trafficking led the feds to raid his homes in Los Angeles and Miami. Although Diddy has yet to be arrested or charged, his reputation is fast taking the plunge, with TMZ’s latest documentary, The Downfall of Diddy, doing even more damage. Several known faces voiced their take on Diddy in the documentary, including Aubrey O’Day, who said goodbye to her Bad Boy Records contract in 2009.
The former Danity Kane singer, claims Diddy, who founded the label in the 90s had ulterior motives for reassigning his Bad Boy publishing rights back to all the artists and writers concerned. Although Diddy attributed this unprecedented move to “making a shift forward” to spearhead reform in the industry, Aubrey O’Day believes he only did so to buy her silence and that of the other artists on the label. She told TMZ,
“I received the publishing deal. I know what it says. I know how much money it was giving me.”
During the interview, Aubrey O’Day claimed the deal offered her “$300.30, for a full release of all claims against Diddy and many more players.” Asked what she thought of the said deal and the rapper’s motivation, the crooner told host Harvey Levin that the rap mogul simply wanted to buy the silence of as many people as possible. She shared,
“I think you would probably be making moves to keep as many people quiet, as possible.”
In fact, the moment Diddy offered her the deal, and the implication of its clauses, Aubrey realized at once that he was up to no good. She failed to sign it as a result. She recalled,
“When I went to look at the publishing deal it said, ‘anything’ but I’m being made whole financially again. In fact, it asked me to not have access to my story and my experience anymore, it asked me specifically to stay silent and never speak poorly about a human. So then I realized something really bad is coming.”
Diddy Made Bad Boy Records Artists Sign NDAs
An insider confirmed Aubrey’s claims to Page Six, admitting an NDA indeed accompanied the juicy offer Diddy dangled at the artists last September. However, “not all artists signed the NDA.” This isn’t the first time Aubrey O’Day has voiced her stance since Diddy’s sex trafficking scandal erupted.
Following the raid of his homes last month, the Second Call crooner took to Instagram to share her take on the incident. In her post featuring a screenshot from an article about the raids, the 40-year-old stated that “what you sow, you shall reap.” She also prayed that the incident “emboldens” more US victims to finally speak up, as “there is no ‘too soon’ on this one, just ‘too late.” Interestingly, Aubrey used the personal pronoun, “we,” to address the “victims,” suggesting she too, had a story to tell.
