The free-to-play, cooperative third person shooter, Warframe is on it’s way to the Nintendo Switch. Digital Extreme announced yesterday that they are partnering with Panic Button to bring the title to the massively successful console. Panic Button is most known for their stellar port work on games like Doom, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Rocket League. Fans of the franchise should rest easy as their work on the aforementioned titles turned out swimmingly.
The port announcement was made at TannoCon, which is an annual convention celebrating Warframe. We don’t know much about the port beyond what was shown in the trailer. No release date was issued alongside the announcement, so don’t expect the game for at least a few more months.
Warframe’s port was announced alongside a trailer that can be viewed below.
Warframe should be right at home on the Switch as the console has a heavy focus on promoting cooperative gameplay. Warframe currently has over 38 million players, which is a far cry from the games troubled launch. Digital Extreme has supported the game heavily since it’s release in 2013 on PC. An official description for the game is as follows:
Warframe gives players the chance to master the Warframe armor as the enigmatic Tenno, a race of ancient warriors wielding blade and gun, who are awakened from centuries of cryo-sleep by the mysterious guide, Lotus, to restore order throughout the Solar System. Warframe features more than 35 unique Warframes, hundreds of weapons and thousands of customization options, the ability to upgrade weapons armor and items using a flexible mod system, and the ability to join clans, nurture pets, and explore massive new open worlds.
Players can expect even more support for the game when it comes to Switch as the Fortuna expansion was announced at TannoCon. This expansion will bring a whole new world and faction alongside the new cooperative spaceship mode. Players should be very excited for the future of the title as it continues to build on it’s strong foundation.
