Xbox may be planning to combine their two tentpole subscription services into one neat package for fans. Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass, subscription services for online play, free titles, and a library of games provide gamers with a ton of content to play on their Xbox platform of choice. Now, Microsoft is looking to combine the two for a lowered price for those who want to pay one fee for both services.
As first reported by Twitter user and Xbox leaker h0X0d, the service is rumored to be called Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and will cost consumers $15 a month, giving them access to a library of over one hundred Xbox games and a slew of additional services. This comes out to roughly $5 in savings if you were to buy each service on a monthly basis individually. This is just another step in the right direction for the Xbox platform as they try to garner goodwill with consumers heading into the next generation.
Speaking of the next generation, it has also been rumored that a disc-less Xbox One will be coming in the near future. With this in mind, it lends to the idea that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate would be the perfect service to launch alongside the new platform as the new Xbox One will only support digital downloads. Having Game Pass out the gate would give new buyers plenty to play with no requirements for a disc drive to use the service.
It seems that all of this is in line with what Xbox has in mind for the future of their platform. With a streaming future in mind, it is rumored that Microsoft is planning a streaming box platform alongside a more traditional Xbox console. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate seemingly right around the corner, it makes sense that it would be an important service for those looking to the all streaming future.
