It’s time for Angel Reese to pay up. The WNBA star, who has taken the league by storm, recently lost a $100K bet to former NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. In a video posted to her Instagram Story, Reese, who has a close working relationship with Shaq, challenged the former center to something he couldn’t pass up.
“100,000 dollars if you make this shot,” Reese said. “Let’s see.”
Shortly after, Shaq, who once said he struggled with free throws, took his shot, swishing it with ease. Once the seven-foot-one athlete made the basket, the auditorium of people erupted, with Angel laughing and screaming. “I guess I owe him $100k,” she wrote on her social media.
Angel Reese and Shaquille: Will She Be Able To Pay the NBA Star His Money?
After Angel Reese posted the video of her losing a bet to Shaquille O’Neal, many sports fans jumped into the comments, wondering if she had the funds to pay.
“Damn,” one user wrote. “That’s a year’s salary.”
“So, basically, she lost her whole rookie check,” another user posted.
According to SportRac, Angel signed a four-year contract with the Chicago Sky for $324,383. But that’s not the only source of income the rising star has coming in. Angel, who became a massive celebrity during her time at LSU, also has several NIL deals. The Bayou Barbie signed sponsorship contracts with Tampax, Beats by Dre, Airbnb, and most recently, Reeses.
Additionally, the six-foot-three power forward inked a lucrative deal with Reebok, meaning she’ll have her own clothing line featuring apparel and shoes.
“Shoe companies wanted to work with me, but I chose Rebook,” Angel said in May 2024. “One, they didn’t have a woman, a women’s basketball player, a face. So I wanted to do that. Two, Shaq, you know, my relationship with Shaq, and three, I like how they were rebranding everything, and they’re like letting me be the creator behind … everything I want to do.”
Shaq, the president of Reebok Basketball, signed Angel to the company while she was in college. “For my first appointment in this role, it had to be the GOAT,” he said. “There is no one making a bigger impact on the game right now than Angel Reese.”
Per a report from On3, Angel’s estimated NIL valuation was $1.8 million when she left LSU. Today, with her rise in popularity, growing business deals, and side projects, the WNBA record-breaker’s net worth has likely surpassed that. So, will she be able to pay Shaq the money she owes him? We’ll have to wait and see.
