Billy Ray Cyrus can finally heave a sigh of relief — he has finalized his divorce from Firerose in record time! Less than three months after he filed to annul his seven-month marriage, the chapter has been closed with most of his finances intact.
After a drama-filled divorce proceeding, the court officially declared Billy and Firerose single on Monday. Per court documents, both parties reached an agreement via mediation on Friday and became legally divorced this morning. As part of the divorce settlement, Firerose is walking away from the marriage without a single dime. However, her ex-husband will turn over his claims to credits and royalties for songs they wrote and published while married. In a surprising twist, Billy’s lawyers told TMZ that the 27-year-old officially changed her last name from Hodges to Cyrus weeks before the final mediation. The name change reportedly confirms the Old Town Road singer’s suspicions that Firerose only married him for his famous last name.
Nevertheless, the Cyrus patriarch isn’t bothered. He is over the moon to finally end his tumultuous marriage to Firerose. He expressed his joy via a statement:
“This has been absolutely the most crazy insane scam I have ever heard of. Let alone the fact I’m right in the center and basically the target of the scheme. It’s unfortunate it played out this way. Not only was it a web of lies that put me in physical danger, it was a matter of the heart. Love is blind, that’s for sure.”
Firerose Wanted Divorce From Billy Ray Cyrus To Go To Trial
While Billy seems elated about the swift finalization, the same cannot be said for Firerose. The Australian singer’s legal team revealed she believed a trial would have favored her.
“If this went to trial, Firerose and her team would have provided a significant amount of evidence to prove he fabricated a narrative that would benefit his public image. There is no doubt she would have been awarded the divorce.”
However, the singer-songwriter allegedly couldn’t deal with the “continuous smear campaign” and “the emotional turmoil.” Firerose, who alleged Billy broke up because she needed a preventative double mastectomy, said she is focused on recovering from her surgery. Firerose and Billy’s fairytale went down in shambles in May. He cited “fraud” as the reason for the split and later filed a restraining order. Firerose, on the other hand, accused him of verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse.
