To go along with his post, Billy Ray shared a heartwarming message for Miley in honor of her big day. While it was sweet, not everyone appreciated it. Fans of the Disney icon criticized Billy Ray for making such a public gesture amid the rumored drama with his family.
What Is Going On With Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus?
In case you were unaware, it’s speculated that Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus have become estranged in recent years. Rumor has it their rift began after Billy Ray and Trish Cyrus split in April 2022. Apparently, the pair’s divorce led their kids to take sides with Miley ultimately choosing to align with her mother instead of her father.
Since then, the Cyrus family drama only appeared to get worse after Miley’s parents married other people. Tish tied the knot with actor Dominic Purcell in August 2023. Meanwhile, Billy Ray wed Australian singer Fire Rose that October. Miley attended her mother’s wedding as her maid of honor. However, she wasn’t seen at her father’s ceremony. It’s possible she either decided to skip the event or wasn’t even invited. Regardless, she seems to have cut Billy Ray out of her life, especially after noticeably snubbing him at the 2024 Grammys.
After Billy Ray Cyrus and Fire Rose broke up in May, the country star appeared to want to make amends with his family, especially Miley. He’s made several posts about her on Instagram, like the one for her 32nd birthday.
Billy Ray’s post included pictures of him and Miley over the years. A few photos showed them being inseparable during Miley’s childhood. Meanwhile, another featured them as co-stars on Hannah Montana when Miley was a teenager. The more recent pictures showed Miley as an adult performing on stage with her father, as well as giving him a big hug. “Happy Birthday Mile !!! Hope it’s the best one ever !” Billy Ray wrote to the birthday girl.
Why Are Some Fans Mad?
Since rumor has it that Miley is still estranged from her father, some fans criticized Billy Ray for trying to make amends with his daughter in such a public matter. “Stay away from her,” one person said. “It’s too late, Billy Ray,” another fan wrote. However, others encouraged him to try and patch things up with Miley. “I hope the best for this relationship,” one fan said. “Hope you find your way back to one another,” another commented.
Miley Cyrus has yet to publicly address her father’s birthday post.
