However, Doja insists her outfit tells a deeper story that aligns perfectly with the night’s theme.

After several days of wearing barely-there outfits—including a saran wrap two-piece, a bedsheet, and a white towel—Doja Cat walked the Met Gala carpet wearing a wet t-shirt by Vetements. The oversized ensemble featured a long cotton shirt that gave the illusion of being drenched in water. It was super sheer and left little to no imagination. She paired the look with platform heels and dainty diamond earrings. Doja rocked her natural blonde haircut while her face was adorned with a teary-eye makeup look.
While on the green carpet, Doja addressed her controversial look, telling ET Online what inspired it.
“I know that people were going to do flowers, so my flower of choice was the most-used flower and it’s cotton, and so I wanted to do a white T-shirt because a white T-shirt is timeless and felt very poetic and I knew it wasn’t really going to blend in. I really don’t like to blend in.”

Doja continued, sharing that she was literally soaking wet at the Met Gala. However, she added that the secret ingredient that held the look together is “hair gel.” Feeling her look, the Say So songstress declared:
“I’m performing, it’s a show tonight. I’m probably going to sit in the chair wet all night.”

Although Doja Cat believed her outfit was out of the box and very much in line with the night’s theme, the internet aggressively disagreed. One fan lashed, “She constantly tries to be different and fails every single time,” while another declared, “now she knows she looks a disaster.”
Another comment read, “Her stylist needs to be prosecuted for this,” while this fourth fan penned, “towels and sheets…did she just run out of her hotel’s bathroom?” A fifth comment read, “The way she’s feeling herself. The second hand embarrassment is REAL.”
This disappointed fan echoed a similar rhetoric, writing, “Doja Cat is the worst dressed celebrity at this year’s met gala.” Despite fans’ echoed displeasure about Doja’s dress, the singer believes she killed it and that’s all that matters.
