He also raised his fist, saying “Fight” three times, as some secret service agents tried to get him to safety. Amid the chaos, a photographer captured a striking image of the politician’s reaction. The picture quickly went viral, causing Donald Trump to comment on the iconic photo.
“A lot of people say it’s the most iconic photo they’ve ever seen,” the 78-year-old said during a chat with The Post on Sunday. “They’re right and I didn’t die. Usually you have to die to have an iconic picture. I just wanted to keep speaking, but I just got shot.”
In addition to the iconic photo of Donald Trump, the politician also opened up about the surreal experience. He said the doctor considered his survival a miracle, as he had not seen anything like it.
“The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle. I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead. I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump told the outlet.
The Donald Trump rally shooting took place in Butler, Pennsylvania, at about 6:15 pm. According to reports, the FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the suspect. He opened fire at the former president with an AR-style rifle from a roof 130 yards away from the rally stage. Thankfully, Trump survived the attack, leaving the event with only an injury to his right ear. However, the shooting claimed the life of 50-year-old Corey Comperatore and left two others critically injured. The suspect also didn’t leave the scene alive, as he was shot dead by a US Secret Service sniper. Meanwhile, investigations remain ongoing. The FBI also revealed that they will treat the Donald Trump rally shooting as an assassination attempt on the politician.
