Jada Pinkett and Will Smith Are Separated
Jada Pinkett and Will Smith are a power couple, inspiring many around the world. But despite how blissful the union appears, there is more to Jada and Will’s marriage than meets the eye. Recently, the actress sat down with Today’s Hoda Kotb for an exclusive chat to talk about her recently published memoir, Worthy. During the chat, Jada shockingly confirmed that she and Will have been separated since 2016. The talk show host elaborated on the issue, giving reasons why they decided to keep it secret. Jada shared that she and Will weren’t just ready yet and were still figuring out how to be in a partnership.
“In regards to how do we present that to people, you know, and we hadn’t figured that out,” she added.
Jada then opened up about what led to the separation. The 52-year-old told Kotb that by the time she and Will got to 2016, they were exhausted from trying. Jada further noted:
“I think we were both stuck in our fantasy of what the other person should be.”
But despite how bad things were, the Girls Trip star said she decided not to file for divorce. Jada explained that she had promised herself and Will that there would never be a reason for them to get a divorce, and she hadn’t been able to break the promise.

She told the outlet they had been doing some “heavy-duty work” together and were figuring things out. Away from her marriage, Jada also broke her silence on the famed incident that occurred at the 2022 Oscars. Recall that Will slapped Chris Rock onstage after the comedian made a joke about Jada’s shaved head.
Sharing her take on the incident, Jada said at first, she thought it was a skit, adding “I was like, ‘There’s no way Will hit him.'” But after her husband began walking back to his seat, the actress realized it was real. Jada recalled asking the actor if he was okay when they were alone. But despite everything that happened, Jada said she would stay by Will’s side but would allow him to figure the situation out on his own. Hopefully, Jada and Will’s marriage issues will get resolved.
