Jonathan Major’s Kang will no longer appear in MCU movies, and the actor is heartbroken about it. According to reports, Robert Downey Jr’s Dr Doom will take Kang’s place as Marvel’s next villain. Recall that Majors’s Kang the Conqueror was integral to the MCU. The character appeared in the Disney+ series Loki and the 2023 film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Fans also expected Kang to appear as the main antagonist in the forthcoming fifth Avengers film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, everything changed in 2023 when the actor was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. In December 2023, the court found Majors guilty of one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault. The judge then sentenced Major to participate in an intervention program.
Although the 34-year-old didn’t bag a jail sentence, the court’s verdict stained his reputation. This resulted in Marvel Studios dropping Majors from future MCU movies. Months after the big decision, Marvel unveiled Robert Downey Jr’s Dr Doom as Kang the Conqueror’s replacement. At Comic-Con on July 27, Kevin Feige and directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealed Dr. Doom would be the villain in the two upcoming Avengers movies. Following the big news, TMZ caught up with Majors to get his thoughts on Marvel Studios’ decision.
“Yeah, heartbroken, of course. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked,” he told a reporter who approached him outside a cafe.
The reporter then asked if Majors thought it was fair that Marvel gave Downey Jr. another chance despite his troubles in the past. Recall that in 1996, the Iron Man star landed in police custody for possession of heroin, cocaine, and an unloaded gun.
“I think it’s fair that Mr Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love,” Majors said.
He also noted that it was fair that the actor got the chance to work his art and be creative at that level. On getting a similar chance to play Kang in the MCU, Majors revealed he would be delighted if it happened.
“Hell yeah! Hell yeah! I love him. I love Kang. If that’s what the fans want, and that’s what Marvel wants then let’s roll. Hell yeah,” he said.
However, despite Jonathan Majors’s hope to play Kang again, he might not be as lucky as Downey Jr. Majors’ fans will hope he can rebuild his career like Downey Jr. even if he never plays Kang.
