Kelsea Ballerini had a fire ant encounter that didn’t end well. On Tuesday, the singer took to her Instagram story with a video showing fans the results of the painful experience. In the clip, the 30-year-old’s bare back was visible for all to see. Ballerini was completely topless while she had her blonde tresses pulled over one shoulder, giving fans a better view of her back. On Kelsea Ballerini’s bare back was a smattering of red marks from the ant stings. However, despite the pain and discomfort, Ballerini maintained her characteristic sense of humor. “Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool,” she said while laughing and showing the ant bites.
At the end of the video, one of Kelsea Ballerini’s staffers leaned into the pop star’s bare back with a wipe and began treating the red marks. “Did I just have an encounter with fire ants? Yes,” she wrote in a text overlay. She added, “Will the music video(s) be worth it? Also yes.”

Kelsea Ballerini’s fire ant encounter comes over a month after she wowed fans at the 2024 CMT Awards. Ballerini performed a reimagined version of her 2015 song Love Me Like You Mean It. Sporting a sparkly gold bodysuit with black tights and heels, Ballerini sang on an outdoor stage, surrounded by fans holding golden lights in the air. “Y’all, I really can’t believe It’s been 10 years. That’s crazy,” she told the audience midway into the performance.
Ballerini released the reimagined version on April 5, explaining on Instagram that her goal was to celebrate the beginning of her career and how far she had come. “ten years ago, i was twenty, naive, starry eyed and absolutely relentless on putting my music out into the world. i’m proud to say, nothing has changed…except a DECADE of this wildly beautiful journey we’ve gotten to share full of tours and sing alongs, wins and losses, and growing up together,” she wrote. Finally, Ballerini told fans that she was working on a new music set to come out soon.
