LeBron James is arguably the best basketball player of all time. With plenty of NBA championships, MVPs, and Finals MVP awards, the actions speak for themselves. However, James is pushing 40 years old and is in his 22nd NBA season. With that being said, The King is still sitting on his throne. James is still putting up great numbers and working to get the Los Angeles Lakers yet another NBA championship. Although not everyone believes LeBron has another season in him.
Marca reports that former NBA player turned ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins has fired some shots at LeBron James. It seems as though Kendrick believes that LeBron should hang it up after this season. Perkins has made his career off his harsh sports takes, especially when it comes to star players. While some basketball fans may not like his boldness, some might just agree with the former player. Kendrick seems to think, “It’s looking like this might be Bron’s final season.”
Perkins’ comments came after a contest between James’ Los Angeles Lakers and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s OKC Thunder. James had a very rough game, as he only posted 12 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. While this is not too bad of a stat line, it is a far cry from a LeBron James, who was a triple-double threat every game. James was also cold from behind the three-point line.
Kendrick Perkins Believes LeBron James Should Retire
This performance reignited the old debut regarding LeBron James’ longevity in the NBA. James has done amazing things in his career, from coming back down three games to one in the NBA finals in 2016 to playing an NBA game with his own son, Bronny James. However, father time is inevitable. While it may be hard for athletes to walk away from the game they love, it always happens eventually. Kendrick Perkins thinks he has smelled blood in the water as he goes after James.
Kendrick Perkins and LeBron James have a slight history, as the two were teammates back in 2018. LeBron was in the middle of his previous stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kendrick Perkins would not see much playing time, though, due to his age. However, that Cavaliers team would reach their fourth straight NBA Finals.
When LeBron James retires from basketball, the sports world will most likely come to a stop. James has raised the bar for what it means to be a professional athlete. While James is, in fact, slowing down, it would seem The King still has some life left in him.
