The MAGA clan is losing it over the success of Wicked. The first part of the movie adaptation of the musical finally premiered last month to praises from fans and critics. The project, which stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as its leads, earned an 89% Tomatometer rating and shattered box office records. However, a right-wing newscaster, Dr Gina Loudon, labeled the movie a flop because of “racism.”
Loudon, who served as a member of Donald Trump’s campaign media advisory board in 2020, went on a bizarre rant on her show. She lamented about Wicked being “woke” on her show, Dr. Gina Prime Time. “I saw it, but I was very excited at the idea of seeing the interpretation of this. But I should have known it’s Holly-weird,” she began. “I should’ve known they’d try to make it woke in the ways that they could think of.” Loudon explained that her gripe with the movie was the racial ambiguity.
“Let’s just start with the fact that they have Ariana Grande, who is obviously a Hispanic woman, playing the part of a ditzy, blonde, white really villain, when it comes right down to it, for this particular movie.”
She continued, “The racism and the racial appropriation I just thought was offensive, frankly.” Loudon further explained that she took issue with the one-dimensional depiction of white characters. “All white people aren’t dumb and evil. I just get kind of sick of that storyline. I feel like that’s where it started, and it kind of lost me there,” she said.
Fans Troll MAGA Newscaster For Bringing Back ‘1900s Era Racism’ With ‘Wicked’ Review
Dr. Loudon’s claims are completely false because Ariana Grande is Italian American with Sicilian and Abruzzese roots. As expected, fans online obliterated the television personality for her ignorant take.
“These dumb ass Trump supporters think Ariana Grande is Hispanic and said Hollywood tried to make wicked woke by casting her as a ditzy blonde…. I really wish I was making this up,” one fan slammed.
“MAGA is willing to bring back 1900s-era racism by suggesting Italians and Irish aren’t Anglo-Saxon enough to be White. How ridiculous,” a second comment read.
“Some right-wing pundit was literally talking s**t about Ariana Grande in the new Wicked movie, saying it’s woke to put her Hispanic a** when Ariana is Italian American…. I can’t with these people no more,” a third user penned.
“Hello?? This is dumb on so many levels, but also, Hispanic people can be white,” a fourth fan corrected.
Dr Loudon is one of the many public right-wing voices that has a problem with the diversity and queerness depicted in Wicked. However, that hasn’t stopped the musical from making a great impression on most of its viewers.
