Meghan Trainor showed her support for Pride Month in a most remarkable way, mirroring the empowerment in her Rainbow (J.Bird Remix). The singer released her song Rainbow, in October 2022, as the eighth track from her fourth studio album, Takin’ It Back for Free. The track captured hearts with its lyrical reference to self-love and body positivity. Months after its release, the songstress has taken a more empowering approach to the song, channeling the lyrical brilliance to the LGBTQ community.
Meghan Trainor Honors Pride Month With Rainbow Remix
Meghan Trainor dropped the remix of the Rainbow track on Friday, June 23, 2024, with an artsy cover reflecting the Pride flag. Of course, given the song’s title, it seems like a no-brainer that the cover art would bear resemblance to the Rainbow flag which represents the Pride movement.
Aside from the colorful artwork of Meghan in a rainbow costume complete with a beret, the star made sure to infuse dramatic rises and drops to transform the original slow rhythm into a dancefloor remix. As a more direct nod to the Pride movement, Meghan Trainor shared a snippet from the Rainbow remix on Instagram, along with the cover photo, captioning it with a tribute to the community. She wrote,
“RAINBOW REMIX by @j.birdmusic (my amazing, talented younger bro) is out now!!! HAPPY PRIDE!!!”
Her writeup also featured a rainbow emoji, and seven heart emojis depicting all the colors of the rainbow. The colorful display and nod to the LGBTG+ community during Pride month gained the attention of fans, who had mixed reactions.
Meghan’s Post Sparked Fury Among Fans
While some of Meghan Trainor’s fans embraced her celebration of the Pride movement with open arms, others frowned upon it. Many fans reacted rashly to the post, expressing their disappointment at the star right before hitting the unfollow button. However, others called out the disgruntled fans, noting that they were displaying homophobic traits by being upset over the crooner’s tribute to the Pride community.
Some noted that the lyrics of Meghan Trainor’s Rainbow remix made no specific reference to the LGBTQ+ community or gay rights. Rather, the song dwelt on the beauty of accepting oneself as they are irrespective of what the world thought. A comment read,
“All the hate in the comments is crazy. Take the lyrics however you want. There’s rainbows in the Bible and the rainbow represents a certain type of person. At the end of the day it’s all love.”
The beautiful message contained in the lyrics is truly an empowering one that resonates with anyone struggling with body image and acceptance, irrespective of their sexuality.
