Over the past year, Millie Bobby Brown has kept relatively quiet about the details surrounding her engagement to Jake Bongiovi. However, that’s all over now as it seems the Stranger Things actress is finally ready to share more about her relationship. On Thursday, Feb. 29, Brown appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and surprised fans by revealing how Bongiovi proposed to her. While it was romantic, the moment didn’t go exactly as planned. In fact, it was kind of chaotic.

Brown said that she waited to open up about her proposal because she wanted to keep “key moments” of her life private. Since it’s “too good of a story to not tell,” the Enola Holmes star decided to make an exception this time. So, how did it all go down? Well, it happened while Brown and Bongiovi were on vacation. The New Jersey native told Brown that they had to get up early to go on a dive. The actress didn’t understand why they needed to be up so early, but little did she know Bongiovi had a big surprise up his sleeve.
He’s telling me, ‘We’re going to the same spot we usually go to. I’m like, ‘It’s boring, let’s go somewhere new.’ He’s like, ‘No, we have to go to this spot.’

After arriving at their spot and diving underwater, Bongiovi surprised Brown by giving her a shell with a ring in it. Bongiovi then tried to ask Brown for her hand in marriage, but the bubbles coming out of his mouth made it hard. Thankfully, Brown still understood. She attempted to accept his proposal by giving him a thumbs up. However, since a thumbs up is used as a signal to rise to the surface, Brown was afraid that her message wouldn’t get across. So, she gave Bongiovi an “okay” hand symbol to let him know it was a “yes.” It may have been a bit “underwhelming,” but the couple couldn’t help but “freak out” over making things official.
The Ring Almost Gets Lost
Things only got more chaotic from there after Brown tried to put on her ring only for it to fall off her finger. Bongiovi immediately went after it despite their diver warning him not to go that far into the water or else his “brain will explode.”
He does a cinematic grab, opens [his hand], and he saves the ring.

While Bongiovi managed to save the ring, it turns out it was just a placeholder for another ring he wanted to give Brown. Once the couple returned to the surface, Bongiovi asked the Stranger Things star for her hand in marriage again. This time, he used Brown’s mom’s ring.
It was very magical.
