Hailey Bieber shares her “new mom” insight into what it feels like to be pregnant in the United States amid “cruel” abortion laws. The model, who welcomed her first baby with husband Justin Bieber in August 2024 has been vocal about her stance on abortion as a healthcare requirement all women should have access to at will. Her take on the subject, which goes contrary to her husband’s pro-life beliefs, has often led to backlash from fans. Yet, the mom-of-one remains unwavering in her stance, joining the Abortion on the Ballot movement to steer voters towards more pro-abortion candidates and policies in the upcoming US elections.
The model solidified her stance this week in a series of Instagram stories promoting the Abortion on the Ballot movement. Via her stories, Hailey Bieber got candid about the under-discussed dangers faced by pregnant women in the United States and how the Supreme Court’s ruling on abortion denies women the right to life-saving care ultimately rendering them unable to voluntarily decide whether or not to subject themselves to the dangers involved in pregnancy. According to her, her status as a new mom made her better understand that fact. She wrote,
“As a new mother, I am acutely aware of how state abortion bans make it unsafe to be pregnant, as women are denied life-saving or fertility-saving care in an emergency.”
She voiced her opinion under a broader movement calling for citizens to understand that “abortion and access to reproductive care are on the ballot” this year. In another slide, Hailey Bieber highlighted the fact that 10 states currently have abortion questions on the ballot to better protect pregnant women. By implication, voters in these states would get to decide how their states should regulate abortion via their responses to questions asked during the November elections.
Notably, states like New York, Montana, Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, Florida, South Dakota, Nevada, Nebraska, and Missouri would have residents directly decide to enact abortion state laws that bypass the formalities of the state courts especially when an expectant mother’s life is at risk. This is in response to the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade after 50 years.
The new mom, Hailey Bieber went on to urge prospective voters to turn up even if their states do not have an abortion amendment on the ballot, as their votes could still make an impact at the national level, ultimately shaping the future of reproductive healthcare in the country.
Her pro-abortion rant comes just hours after the new mom granted her first interview since welcoming her son Jack Blues. In the interview, Hailey Bieber, who announced she was pregnant in May discussed her latest product launch, the Barrier Butter featuring 90s model Claudia Schiffer as the face of the brand. She also discussed surviving the business world, noting that while mistakes were inevitable, she remained committed to navigating these mistakes as they came, even those out of her control. The same principles most certainly apply to navigating motherhood and the bumps around it.
