In a new interview with The New York Times, the “Wonder” singer revealed he and his ex-girlfriend have built such a good relationship over the years that their breakup hasn’t stopped them from remaining in each other’s lives. Since there’s nothing but love between them, Mendes can’t stand when fans pit them against each other. “[It] bugs me,” he said.

Years after their breakup, Mendes knows he can still rely on Cabello for anything. That’s why he’s grateful he’ll always have someone to lean on whenever he’s in trouble.
“Honestly, if something was to happen in my family and if something was to happen to me, she’d probably be the first person I call, to this day,” he explained, adding Cabello is “one of my closest best friends.”
Mendes revealed that their relationship has taught him a lot about love since they continue to care about each other following their breakup.
