Sofia Vergara is opening up about the end of her marriage to Joe Manganiello. The power couple ended their seven-year marriage in July 2023, to the surprise of fans. All seemed well in their paradise until it was later revealed that they couldn’t agree on having children. Manganiello wanted one, but Vergara didn’t. Now, with the divorce behind her, the Modern Family star is addressing the topic of being pressured to be a mother for the second time.

More than a month after finalizing her divorce with the Magic Mike actor, Vergara delved deep into the cause of their breakup. The Colombia native explained why having children was a breaking point. “There’s things in life that might sound like good ideas, but they’re not,” she confessed to People Magazine. “I was a mother already. I know what it means to be a good mother or to try to be the best mother that you can, and that takes a lot of sacrifices.”
The 51-year-old admitted that although science makes it possible for people her age to have kids, she didn’t think it was the right decision.
“I didn’t think because of my career, the way I live my life, the way my marriage was, that it was fair to bring a kid to this world, and I’m not going to be able to give 100 percent.”

Nevertheless, Vergara holds no judgment for older women who want to be mothers in their 50s. She is, however, more interested in being a grandmother. Her son Manolo Gonzalez, whom she welcomed at 19, is 32.

Now that Sofia Vergara is single and back on the market, she has some strict rules for dating. When asked what qualities she desires in her new relationship, the actress simply answered, “Health. Money. Fun. With kids. That’s it. That’s all I want.” As for her deal-breakers, the mother-of-one insists she is still not interested in having more kids.
Vergara’s revelation about her former marriage comes weeks after she launched her new romance. She went Instagram official with her rumored beau, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman. Saliman and Vergara were photographed on a couple of romantic outings in late 2023. However, she finally unveiled him in a cheeky post shared on her Instagram Story.
Per E! News, while appreciating him for his support during her knee procedure, Vergara wrote, “If u ever get a major knee surgery make sure u get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night!!!!Luv u Dr @jdsaliman [heart emoji].”
