Forget the overcooked turkey, bland mashed potatoes, and soggy green bean casserole. True appreciators of food know that pie is the absolute best dish at any Thanksgiving gathering. However, the seemingly never-ending array of pies makes it almost impossible to choose a favorite. Interestingly enough, the same can be said when it comes to the beloved cast and characters of Netflix’s Stranger Things. The star-studded lineup features a plethora of notable characters with their own unique qualities that make them either loved or hated. Truthfully, it’s often hard to choose an actual favorite in Stranger Things, as well as a Thanksgiving pie. Still, someone has to do it. Let’s take a look at Stranger Things’ main characters as Thanksgiving pies.
Karen Wheeler: Blackberry Cobbler Pie
Cobbler is a cake-like texture that holds the entire dessert together. This quality perfectly describes Karen Wheeler, the mother of Nancy and Mike. Karen constantly tries to keep her family together, even when her children are facing government troubles when standing up against Russians and Hawkins Lab’s ruthless scientists. Adding in blackberries brings a particular sweetness to the pie, though it’s the dough base that relies on the entire pie coming together.
Jonathan Byers – Peanut Butter Cream Pie
Either you love peanut butter or you hate it. Interestingly enough, that’s how many fans feel when it comes to Will’s older brother, Jonathan. While Jonathan presents as a heroic, down-to-earth type of guy, some fans are unsure what to make of him. Many fans adhere to the strong developmental arc of Steve Harrington, who was an enemy of Jonathan Byers for many years. Still, Jonathan is a warm, tender person at heart who only wishes to please and protect those that he cares about. Peanut Butter Cream Pie lives to satisfy as well, making Jonathan and the pie the perfect pair.
Nancy Wheeler: Coconut Cream Pie
Because of her general sweetness and attractive personality, many fans flock to Nancy Wheeler as a fan favorite. As such, her sweetness and warm-hearted nature attribute to her qualities as a Coconut Cream Pie. Despite the “bad girl” persona she was aiming for in season 1, Nancy uses her intelligence and affability to protect her younger brother and his friends. Coconut gives off a relatively sweet taste that remains in your mouth long after you’ve eaten it. In retrospect, Nancy is a memorable character that fans rarely forget about.
Lucas Sinclair: Key Lime Pie
The juice within a key lime pie has the tendency to be more acidic and a bit bitter. As the most pragmatic character in Stranger Things, Lucas’ spot in Stranger Things’ character Thanksgiving pies fits as Key Lime. While many fans believe his realistic, hesitant approach can be harmful, those are the very qualities that make him unique. As such, people occasionally steer away from Key Lime Pie due to its uniqueness and bitter taste. Nevertheless, there are people who love the individual pie, much like those that can’t help but love Lucas.
Dustin Henderson: Sweet Potato Pie
The sweet, starchy vegetable used to make Sweet Potato Pie gives it an unforgettable flavor. Combine this sweet treat with ingredients such as nutmeg and ginger, and the sweetness only increases. As such, Dustin has proven himself to be a memorable character with plenty of likable qualities. Just as Sweet Potato Pie is a sweet addition to any Thanksgiving family gathering, Dustin is a great addition to his friend’s group. His courageous nature and often role as a peacemaker between his arguing friends are reasons why he’s been established as a fan favorite.
Will Byers: Pecan Pie
Out of all of the Stranger Things’ main characters as Thanksgiving pies, Will’s comparison is the most true to the treat. The reason being, Pecan Pie tastes completely different to how it actually looks. Will, who has faced incredible pain and trauma, is exactly like Pecan Pie for this reason. While Will appears to be a carefree, happy-go-lucky boy enjoying his childhood, a collection of PTSD and suffering bubbles below his tough skin. The outside of Pecan Pie is rough and nut-based, though the inside is soft and gooey, much like a caramel candy bar. Truthfully, Will is tough on the outside, yet sweet and tender on the inside.
Mike Wheeler: Blueberry Pie
Blueberry Pie is as complex as the character of Mike Wheeler. Blueberry Pie is a relatively simple dessert with no extra added ingredients needed except its natural filling. Just like Mike, you get what you see when it comes to this delicious pie. As a supportive friend and helpful member of his group, Mike is the perfect combination of sensible and blithe. Still, his intuitions keep him steady, though he can be sweet as well. When it comes to Eleven, he’s as sweet as he comes. However, when it comes to defending Eleven and his friends, he’s as comforting and reliable as a slice of Blueberry Pie.
Joyce Byers: Chocolate Cream Pie
Chocolate, pudding, and pie—three ingredients that have everyone coming back for more! Much like this pie, Joyce Byers is a staple in Netflix’s Stranger Things. As the sweet, overprotective mother who just wants the best for her two sons, it makes sense to choose a pie just as lovely as Joyce. The filling inside of Chocolate Cream Pie leaves a fantastic feeling, and something to be heavily desired. As such, Joyce leaves something to be desired with each episode she’s in, creating new Stranger Things memories.
Steve Harrington: Cherry Pie
Sweet as Cherry Pie! With a cool drink of water, of course. It’s no secret that Steve Harrington is a growing favorite in Stranger Things, with one of the best character arcs in the show. As such, Steve’s comparison to one of America’s most favorite holiday pies makes sense. This tasty and appetizing treat includes more than meets the eye, which is also fitting for Steve. In season 1, Steve appears more as an arrogant, overbearing jock just trying to impress Nancy Wheeler. As the seasons progress, Steve undergoes a massive change of heart. Eventually, he becomes as sweet as a slice of Cherry Pie.
Jim Hopper: Pumpkin Pie
Near the top of the list of the Stranger Things’ main characters as Thanksgiving pies, Jim Hopper is one of the best. Everyone loves Pumpkin Pie, and everyone loves Jim Hopper. Pumpkin Pie somehow conveys this message of nostalgia, along with tasting absolutely delicious. Pumpkin Pie and Jim Hopper both share many redeeming qualities. Even though this dessert can taste dense, its smooth and flavorful blend is why it’s one of the most popular Thanksgiving pies. Time and time again, Hopper has jumped through hoops and beat obstacles to prove other-worldly issues happening in Hawkins. As such, you can rely on the taste of this pie each time, just like Hopper can be relied on by those closest to him.
Eleven: Apple Pie
It just wouldn’t be a Stranger Things Thanksgiving without Eleven as the beloved and favored, Apple Pie. No matter who you are or when you arrive at your destination, everyone loves Apple Pie on Thanksgiving. The sought-after double-crusted dessert leaves a sweeter taste in your mouth than the last. As the top dog of pies, Eleven perfectly fits the comparison to Apple Pie. Eleven serves as the leader of her friend group, and is constantly sought after and looked upon to steer everyone in the direction of justice. While Apple Pie’s crust is flaky and tender, Eleven’s outer tough shell is just as tender and warm. Similarly to Will, she’s suffered far more than the rest of the Stranger Things’ characters, making her the best pie on this list.
