Taylor Swift has officially announced her next re-recorded album. And as it turns out, the fans were right. She’s re-releasing 1989. The singer shared the news during her Aug. 9 concert at SoFi Stadium by unveiling her album’s new artwork. The image, which showed Swift smiling against a blue backdrop, confirmed 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will drop on Friday, Oct. 27. Although it’s still months away, fans can already pre-order the album.
Taylor Swift Announces 1989 (Taylor’s Version) Live In Concert
Since Swift had been teasing 1989 (Taylor’s Version) for a while, fans suspected she would announce it during her Aug. 9 concert since the date would literally be 8/9, aka 89. Throughout her latest concert, Swift hinted she had a surprise by debuting several new outfits throughout her show. Then, just before performing “New Romantics,” she took a moment to confirm fans’ theories about 1989. The star began by reminding the audience that it was “the eighth month of the year” and “the ninth day.” Since it was a special occasion, Swift revealed she of course had to wear new costumes for her latest stop on her Eras Tour. The crowd instantly erupted in applause because they knew what was coming next.
“There’s something that I’ve been planning for a really, really, really, ridiculously embarrassingly long time. I think instead of just telling you about it, I think I’ll just sort of show you,” Swift said before unveiling the cover art for 1989 (Taylor’s Version). The image confirmed the record will arrive exactly nine years after the original album dropped on Oct. 27, 2014. After sharing the news, Swift proceeded to perform “New Romantics” as one of her “secret songs” that night. Notably, the track was featured on the deluxe version of 1989.

Later that night, Swift also announced the news publicly on social media. “Surprise!! 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you 🔜!” she wrote on Instagram. “The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th.” Swift added that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is her favorite re-recorded album so far because of the five extra “from the vault” tracks that she added to the record. “I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!” she said.
Swifties can pre-order the album as a physical CD, vinyl record, cassette, and digital album now on Swift’s official website.
