We all need tough love every now and again, and none is more aware of this, than Ashton Kutcher. The actor took a walk down memory lane to a time when his wife called him an a**hole. Kutcher and his wife, the renowned Mila Kunis, fans would recall, were heavily criticized by the media in 2023. This came in the wake of the character letters the couple penned down for Danny Masterson, currently a convicted rapist. A year later, in the midst of the Diddy Scandal, fans narrowed their eyes at Kutcher’s relationship with the rapper.
Regardless of his current negative position on many fans’ favorite celebrity list, Kutcher maintains that he worked on self-improvement. According to him, his journey towards personal growth came on the heels of his divorce from actress Demi Moore. Kutcher and Moore split in 2012, around the same time Kunis and her then-long-time boyfriend Macaulay Culkin parted ways. Although Kutcher and the Ghost star announced their separation in late 2011, it was finalized in November 2013. Reminiscing on the union with Moore, Kutcher commented on the uniqueness of their marriage from the start.
In 2005, when he and Moore tied the knot, she already had three kids from an earlier marriage. Speaking on the experience, Kutcher said, “I was 26, bearing the responsibility of an 8-year old, a 10-year old and a 12-year old,” adding further, “That’s how some teen parents must experience their 20s.” In her book Inside Out, Demi Moore shared details about the rocky marriage.
Per Glamour, Kunis summarized his behavior in the marriage with a brutal assessment that spurred his desire to improve.
“You were an a**hole” are the words Kutcher recalls hearing from his former costar turned wife. Upon his attempt to dispute the evaluation, she insisted, saying, “Yeah, you were an a**hole for a good two years.” Following her review, the former Punk’D host claims to have put in work to become a better man. In this renewed, updated state, Kutcher got engaged to Kunis in 2014.
Mila Kunis’ Brutal Honesty Is Not Only Reserved for Her Husband
Not one to mince words, even when it is about herself, Kunis gave herself a similar self-appraisal. The Black Swan star turned the barrel on herself and took a few shots at her past self as well. While talking about her relationship with Macaulay Culkin, she said:
“I was an a**hole in my 20s, and I’ll be the first to admit it. And that’s kind of something that took me a long time to come out and say, yeah, you know what? I was a d**, and I accept it, and I own it now.”
Kunis and Culkin’s relationship lasted for eight years before the pair ended things in 2011. While they initially claimed that the breakup was mutual, Kunis confessed years later that it was less than civil. Aside from a few hints, however, neither party has revealed any details about the true nature of the breakup. Regardless, Kunis seems willing to own up to whatever part she had to play in how things ended.
