Mike Tyson recently revealed that Jamie Foxx appeared to have suffered a stroke before he was hospitalized. The boxer made this revelation on May 16, adding that he was unsure if the hearsay was true. Before this, Foxx was known to have suffered from a mysterious medical condition leading to his hospitalization. However, the stories surrounding the actor’s health have been unclear as his family seems to be keeping it on a low.
What We Know about Jamie Foxx’s Health The Stroke Claims
Although it is unclear when Foxx started showing symptoms of his illness, concerns about Foxx’s health were first raised when he was admitted to the emergency room on April 11. His daughter, Corinne Foxx, took to her Instagram page on April 12 to share that her father had been hospitalized due to what she vaguely referred to as a “medical complication.” She stated that her father was already on the way to recovery after receiving medical attention, adding that the family would appreciate some privacy.
On April 14, a source revealed that doctors were running tests and trying to figure out what happened. The 55-year-old’s health challenges started while filming his upcoming movie Back in Action in The Peach State. A few days later, another source told People that although Foxx was still in the hospital and the doctors were running tests on him, he was “awake and alert.” As of April 25, Foxx was still believed to be in the hospital due to a medical emergency.
How Foxx’s Health Progressed
The movie star’s longtime pal, Kerry Washington, shared a throwback photo of them while sending him love and prayers after she learned of his unexpected hospitalization. Other celebrities, including Nicole Murphy, LeBron James, Jennifer Hudson, Tracy Morgan, Jennifer Lopez, Steve Harvey, and Taraji P. Henson, also sent their best wishes to the actor.
As of May 12, all indications were that Foxx was doing much better than when he was first hospitalized. On that day, 29-year-old Corinne shared on her Instagram story that the Ray star was healthy enough to do some physical activity. Replying to a report that the actor was “preparing for the worst,” she wrote, “My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating.” She added, “In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!”
Things seemed to take a turn for the better when Fox announced on May 15 that father and daughter would host a new show together. The network revealed that the father-daughter duo would be hosting. We Are Family is a musical game show which will premiere in 2024. An insider also revealed on May 5 that the Academy Award-winning actor was “stable and not in a life-threatening situation now.”
While there is a disparity between when the source said he was home from the hospital and when his daughter revealed he was, there were allegations that Foxx’s medical team had advised that he keep his stress level down once he is discharged from the hospital.
Mike Tyson Claims He Heard Jamie Foxx Had a Stroke
On May 16, Tyson revealed on the PBD podcast that he heard that Foxx had been hospitalized after having a stroke. However, he clarified that he was unsure whether the hearsay was true, adding, “I have no idea what happened to him.” The Golden Globe winner had been set to portray Tyson in an upcoming biopic series, but his casting is now up for debate due to his medical situation.
The 56-year-old boxer added that there had been such a hush about his illness because his family did not want the public to know about it. Amid his medical situation, Back in Action had to pause filming but resumed days later with a body double in Foxx’s place. Nick Cannon and Kelly Osbourne also had to temporarily fill in for Jamie and Corinne, 29, as the co-hosts of the Fox musical game show Beat Shazam earlier this month.
Foxx, however, broke his silence on May 3 to update fans on his health, though he offered little information. “Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed,” he wrote on his Instagram Story, adding emojis of praying hands, a red heart, and a fox.
